The ACLU Papers, Part I, 1912-1990, consists of two major collections with sub-series. The Roger Baldwin Years (1921-1950) contains sub-series with clippings and files on academic freedom, censorship, state activities, conscientious objectors, injunctions, and labor and labor organizations correspondence. The Years of Expansion (1950-1990) contains foundation files on the Amnesty Project, the Lawyers Constitutional Defense Committee, and subject files across a variety of topics. Also includes legal case files 1933-1990.

The ACLU Papers, Part II, Southern Regional Office (located in Atlanta, Georgia) focuses on the ACLU's Southern Regional Office and its legal battles to enforce the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in thirteen Southern states. A primary source perspective on civil rights issues from voting rights to the dismantling of the Jim Crow system.
