by Hannah Plotkin on 2023-03-06T09:44:00-07:00 | 0 Comments

Welcome back from spring break! The library is pleased to announce our two new efforts to make your library use and studying more pleasant and productive.

HappyLight Therapy Lamps Now Available in the Reserve Book Cabinet!

While it is true that Tucson has roughly 350 days of sunshine a year, the heat and UV index are often so intense that it is not always pleasant or safe to spend enough time outsideLibrary employee sitting by window with HappyLight to reap the benefits of natural light. These benefits can include improved mood and higher quality sleep.

Sun lamp therapy is a well-regarded treatment to replace exposure to nPicture of HappyLights in reserve book cabinetatural light. Outside of the clinically-proven benefits, sun lamps can produce a soft, warm glow that is quite relaxing and comforting! The Law Library has purchased two HappyLights for our students to use whenever you need them. Whether it is to alleviate seasonal depression or use in the place of the fluorescent overhead lighting in a study room, these HappyLights are available to check out from the course reserve book cabinet for four hours at a time.

Meditation Apps to Try Out in the Reflection Room!

The Reflection Room on the lower level of the library is a great place to take a quiet moment away and relax. Sometimes, however, it can be hard to know exactly how to relax. We have compiled a list of meditation apps (vetted by yours truly) that provide a little extra support to keep calm and carry on. Meditation is recognized in the mental health field to markedly reduce stress, improve focus, make people more empathetic, and even change the structure of the brain. If you have tried meditation before and didn't love it, rest assured that there are many styles of meditation, and you could still find one that is right for you. You can find this handy list of meditation apps hanging up in the Reflection Room.
