This committee's focus involves data security and privacy law. The following two sub-committees work on data security and privacy law.
1. Communications, Media, and Broadband
2. Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security.

This committee' s work involves overseeing intelligence activities and programs of the United States Government, e.g., cybersecurity etc. It submits to the Senate appropriate proposals for legislation, reports to the Senate concerning such intelligence activities and programs, and to provide vigilant legislative oversight over the intelligence activities of the United States to assure that such activities are in conformity with the Constitution and laws of the United States.

The Committee on Energy and Commerce is the oldest continuous standing committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It was originally established in 1795 to regulate interstate and foreign commerce. Today, the Committee has the broadest jurisdiction of any authorizing committee in Congress. It legislates on a wide variety of issues, including: privacy, cybersecurity and data security. The following two sub-committees work on privacy and cybersecurity:
1. Communications and Technology
2. Consumer Protection and Commerce

This committee mainly works in addressing the issues related to counter terrorism and national security. Moreover, following two of its sub-committee's also work on the issues pertaining to cyber security, privacy and data security.
