National Library Week, April 23-29, 2023, There's More to the Story

National Library Week is April 23-29, 2023. This national annual observance celebrates the contributions of libraries and their staff to their communities and greater society. This year's theme is "There's More to the Story" - a reminder that while libraries are full of stories on their shelves, they are more than their collections of books.

Libraries provide a variety of resources to help their communities succeed. Here at the Cracchiolo Law Library, that includes book stands and extra monitors for your study sessions to personal reference and research support by our Law Librarians and Library Fellows. Libraries also engage in outreach and develop programs to support their communities, such as when the Library Fellows greet you with coffee and donuts to help you get through the morning (which is happening again this Wednesday, April 26 by the way!) or host book and research talks about relevant or recent events to engage in meaningful discussions. Our library also provides crucial infrastructure to support our community, including spaces to meet, collaborate, reflect, and study without interruption.

Throughout National Library Week are special celebration days that bring focus to special library issues.

Right to Read Day, April 24, 2023, Protect Your Freedom to ReadMonday, April 24th is Right to Read Day, which supports efforts to fight back against censorship and defend, protect, and celebrate the right to read freely. Celebrate Right to Read Day by checking out a challenged book, attending local library meetings to stay informed, writing a letter to your local newspaper or elected officials, and reporting censorship.

Fund Libraries, Tell Congress to invest in libraries.Thursday, April 27th is Take Action for Libraries Day, which encourages everyone to advocate for library funding. The invaluable services and programs offered by libraries are largely dependent upon funding sources. Strong libraries make strong communities.
