Our Foreign, Comparative and International Law Librarian and Professor of Legal Research, Marcelo Rodríguez, was recently selected to be part of the prestigious CFR Education Ambassador program for Higher Education.

This is the first time that the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) expands its already-successful Ambassador program to professors, instructors, and administrators championing global affairs in colleges and universities across the country. For a few years now, the CFR Ambassador program has become a consequential and influential initiative connecting educators across the United States with resources, professional development activities and creating a network of like-minded professionals who are committed to equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and perspective to navigate today’s connected world.

With its first-ever higher education Ambassador program, CFR seeks to expand its network to higher education instructors and administrators who incorporate global affairs into international relations, history, public policy, area studies, economics, law, environmental studies, public health, or other disciplines. CFR chose Marcelo based on his passion for global affairs and commitment to equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and perspective to navigate today’s connected world.

We are proud of his accomplishments and having Marcelo recognized at the national level. In his law librarian role, Marcelo works closely with several law faculty members at the James E. Rogers College of Law (COL) pursuing research on comparative and international legal topics and issues. Furthermore, he supports foreign, comparative and international legal research from law students writing substantive notes, especially those part of our Arizona Journal of international and Comparative Law (AJICL). Marcelo also serves as the Faculty Advisor to the law school’s Foreign Lawyers Students Association.

Besides teaching two first-year legal research classes, Marcelo teaches an advanced legal research class on Foreign, Comparative and International Legal Research, a course he created. Together with the Law Library Director, Teresa Miguel-Stearns, he co-leads courses in Mexican Constitutionalism and Inter-American System of Justice as part of a Mexican Public Law Certificate co-sponsored by the University of Arizona College of Law and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM in Spanish). Beyond his stellar work at the UA College of Law, Marcelo is an affiliated faculty with the UA Center for Latin American Studies, teaches a seminar on Foreign, Comparative and International Research for students enrolled at the UA W.A. Franke Honors College and he was one of the UA Hispanic-Serving Institution (HIS) fellows in 2021-2022.

Through this CFR designation, his work, education and connections, Rodríguez naturally joins a network of leaders who are championing global civics and global affairs education.
