Library Tip of the Week: Study Rooms for Exams

by Hannah Plotkin on 2024-04-22T09:30:29-07:00 | 0 Comments

As finals approach, you may be looking for a reliably quiet place to study or even take your exams. The bookable study rooms on the lower level of the library may be the perfect place!

When studying, especially in a group, it should be noted that the study rooms are not soundproof. If you are planning on speaking above a whisper during your study session, please consider using the library’s upper level or the collaborative workspace in room 15 on the lower level. There are a total of four pods in room 15, which can be reserved just like the study rooms. In addition to the intuitive tools and tech in the room carefully selected to help you study, it is totally acceptable to speak at a normal volume in this space.

One thing that we are striving hard to ensure is that you have no unnecessary disturbances while using the study rooms. Each study room should have a “Do Not Disturb” door hanger that you can place on the door handle while using the room. If you can’t find one in the study room of your choice, please let someone at the circulation know, we have plenty of extras!

We have also made “Exam in Progress” signs to put in the sign holders located on all the study room doors. Please remember to put the sign back inside the study room after the conclusion of your exam. As with the door hangers, if you need an “Exam in Progress” sign and don’t see one, you can collect one from the circulation desk.

The last, and most important, tip we can give you on ensuring a disturbance free study room experience is to reserve your room on the law library room reservation page! You can do this well ahead of time, and it is the most reliable way to guarantee that you will get the room you want, for how long you need it. Remember, if you don’t reserve the room you’re using, and someone with a reservation arrives, you will need to move to a different location.
