Library Tip of the Week: Portable Monitors Available For Check Out

by Hannah Plotkin on 2024-02-12T09:29:19-07:00 | 0 Comments

A second screen can make a world of difference when studying, writing papers, or taking notes on your laptop. Students have shared this insight with us in the past, which is why we have several spare monitors placed throughout the lower level of the library. While those monitors addressed the need for a second screen, we’ve found there are limitations: they’re cumbersome to move from one location to another, and at busy times in the library, there aren’t enough for all the students who would like to use them. Therefore, we are happy to announce a monitor upgrade!

The law library now has portable monitors available for 24-hour check-out from the circulation desk. These monitors are lightweight, fit in a backpack or tote bag, and only require a single USB-C cord for both power and to connect to your laptop. If you have an older laptop without a USB-C port, we have USB-C to USB-A converters for you to use.

The monitors must be checked out from and returned to the circulation staff, Monday through Friday, between 8 am and 5 pm. They will not be available from the book cabinet and should not be left in the book return after hours. Monitors checked out on Friday will be due the following Monday, so if you plan on studying on Saturday or Sunday, make sure to pick one up before we close for the weekend. There are 14 monitors in total, and they are first-come, first-served, so feel free to email or call circulation to see if there’s one available before you stop by. Additionally, any one of our circulation staff will be happy to go over monitor use with you if you have any questions about how to connect your second screen.

See you in the library!
