July is Disability Pride Month

July is Disability Pride Month. Since the American with Disabilities Act was passed in July 1990, July has become the month honored for this landmark piece of legislation and its impact on fostering more inclusion in society. Below are some resources from the American Bar Association, the University of Arizona, the James E. Rogers College of Law, and the Daniel F. Cracchiolo Law Library.

The American Bar Association is supporting Disability Pride Month with its #BeCounted campaign, asking lawyers across the United States to anonymously post their disability in its digital form to show on its online map that disability is a crucial part of the legal profession and should be celebrated. Ongoingly, the American Bar Association provides resources for learning about disability inclusion and advocacy through its 21-day Disability Habit-Building Challenge and its Commission on Disability Rights.

The University of Arizona has a value of inclusive excellence for its campus. For students with questions about having a disability, accessibility, and accommodations, the Disability Resource Center is an invaluable resource. The Disability Cultural Center celebrates and explores disability identity on campus through programs and events. The University of Arizona also has a club run by neurodivergent students called the Autistic & Neurodivergent Student Association.

The James E. Rogers College of Law has a diversity committee that works with students, faculty, and staff to strengthen understanding and inclusion. The College of Law also has an Education Advocacy Clinic where students can assist K-12 Tucson students with disabilities that have special education legal issues.

The Daniel F. Cracchiolo Law Library features disability rights resources in its Anti-Racist and Social Justice Guide, including books, cases and legislation, research and academic scholarship, and teaching resources, and this month has a book display up on this topic.
