Course Objectives

The realm of immigration and administrative law legal research is somewhat vast, so it's unrealistic to remember every detail initially. Thus, this class aims for foundational knowledge, providing a platform upon which you can build in the future.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Grasp the core framework of administrative law and its agencies.
  • Comprehend both state and federal regulatory processes.
  • Understand the structure and intent of statutes, administrative codes, registers, agency decisions, and guidance documents.
  • Navigate various online resources for immigration law research.
  • Skillfully use diverse sources to locate immigration law secondary materials, statutes, regulations, cases, agency decisions, and guidance documents.
  • Utilize multiple sources to monitor changes in statutes and regulations.
  • Track the history of statutes and regulations with various resources.
  • Employ different research methods (like indexes, table of contents, terms and connectors searching) for diving into immigration and administrative law topics.
  • Conduct precise and impactful research in immigration and administrative law to address legal inquiries and construct legal arguments.
