Do Librarians Need to Start Teaching AI-Legal Research, Christine Park, RIPS Law Librarian Blog, March 7, 2023
Initially skeptical about using AI in legal research, the author's perception changed with CoCounsel's announcement of an AI assistant capable of substantive legal work. While acknowledging the limitations of AI tools like ChatGPT, which can generate inaccuracies due to outdated information, the author highlights CoCounsel's abilities to execute tasks like writing memos, reviewing documents, and extracting information from contracts. The author concludes that this doesn't mark the end for human lawyers, but suggests that law librarians may need to reconsider their teaching approaches to incorporate AI-enhanced legal research basics and responsible AI use.
